Ryan Norman’s Slave Lake rink came within a whisker of qualifying for the Alberta men’s provincial curling championships on the weekend. Curling on home ice against teams from Edmonton and elsewhere around the province, Norman’s team was up 5 – 1 after five ends against the Cross team from Edmonton’s Saville Centre, but ended up losing 7 – 6. Playing with Wayne Dastou, Steve Gladue and Carl McRee – with Everett Samuelson as alternate – Norman ended the qualifier with a 2 – 2 record.
