The Maple Crescent Park Committee, also known as Save the Park, has once again kept Maple Crescent Park in business. In 1991, a similar committee raised funds to build the original park and the Town of Slave Lake donated the land.

Wildfires in May and June continue to impact community events. Several events were postponed because of the fires.
Some, like the Kinuso Fire Department Annual Steak and Lobster Dinner, happened in September.

“I got bored,” Charlette Flemming says, in answer to the question why she opened a new restaurant in Smith.
“I love the people of Smith,” she continued. “I love being around them. This is what I do.”
