Kimberly Poitras, formerly of Slave Lake, is taking the swimming world by storm. She started swimming very young, but this year with Team Canada sychro tryouts she didn’t have time to train for speed swimming. Even with this disadvantage, she won or placed second in all her races during the Alberta Summer Swimming Association speed swimming provincials.

Slave Lake community discussion on Facebook has become an important part of the Slave Lake community. Sharon Watchel didn’t start the page, but has been the sole moderator for the last three or four years.
Moderating the Facebook page is “a fun thing to do,” Watchel says.
