Slave Lake’s 13U AA Heat hosted teams from Leduc, Grande Prairie and Barrhead on the weekend. They lost the first two, but rallied in the third on Sunday afternoon to get a win over the Barrhead Orioles.
In their first game on Saturday, the Heat got off to a rough start against Leduc’s Black Gold. They were down by seven runs right off the bat, but got back into the game and made it a close one. Black Gold won, 18 – 16. The Heat had the bases loaded with nobody out in the bottom of the seventh, but couldn’t get any more runs over the plate.
Game #2 was a 14 – 10 loss to Grande Prairie, on Sunday morning.
Sunday afternoon’s game against Barrhead was a tight, back-and-forth affair until the Heat blew it open late with a big inning, to win by 10 runs, 18 – 8. Timely hitting and alert base-running made a big difference in the game.
Meanwhile, the 18U Heat was playing a set of games in Fort Saskatchewan. We’ve heard (from unofficial sources) they also went 1 – 2. The team was short players due to high school graduation, and got help from three 15U players.
And (this just in!), Slave Lake plays host to another weekend of ball, when the U11 Heat host on the weekend of July 8 and 9.
