Slave Laker Michael Vance is doing some interesting volunteer work in fisheries management, on Vancouver Island this spring. He tells us he’s been working with both the Tsolum River Restoration Society and the Little River Enhancement Society. The work includes rescuing salmon smolts, trapping and counting smolts, raising coho and chum salmon and trying to remove invasive pumpkin seed fish. Vance is on the left in the photo. He studied natural resource management at Portage College and at Fleming College in Ontario and says he hopes to get work in the field back home in the Lesser Slave Lake area.
