Pearl Lorentzen
Lakeside Leader

Glen and Sheila Allan tag team their garden. Sheila chooses and plants. Glen does the up keep. There’s a lot for both of them to do in their lovely yard in northeast Slave Lake. The front yard is more of a spring garden, but catches the eye all season. However, the back yard is even better.

Queen of the prairie in the back yard. The Allans have a large patch of this perennial. It all started with one plant a few years ago. It likes shade and some years grows as tall as the six-foot fence.
Glen and Sheila Allan in front of a flowerbed under two spruces. The yellow and orange flowers are calendula, which re-seed themselves each year. Many of the taller plants are planters on stumps.
A Morden centennial rose bloom. The Allans have a variety of roses, which Sheila chose for their smell and hardiness.

Some sun loving gazanias in a flowerbed. The planter in the middle has a geranium, verbena, and calibrachoa (which is like a petunia, but with smaller flowers).
A columbine.
Bougainvillea in a pot and mint growing in a flower bed.
Some purple verbena in a planter.
