On Dec. 21, 2022, at approximately 8:16 p.m., Slave Lake RCMP responded to a call of a stolen vehicle in the parking lot of a hotel in Slave Lake. They located the vehicle and arrested a suspect who was staying in the hotel nearby.

While on scene, RCMP obtained and later executed search warrants for the hotel room the suspect was arrested in. They found two firearms and 428 grams of what is suspected to be methamphetamine. In addition, police seized small amounts of what they suspect is fentanyl and cocaine, plus brass knuckles and what appear to be “altered and fraudulent identification documents.”

Facing charges in the case is a 38-year-old man from Slave Lake. He’s to appear in Slave Lake Provincial Court on Jan. 11 to answer charges (three) of possession of controlled substances for the purpose of trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, possession of a weapon contrary to prohibition order, possession of a forged document, possession of identity documents to commit fraud, and failing to comply with a release order (three).

The accused was remanded in custody.

“Drug trafficking typically creates a large number of spin-off offences related to the addiction, including violence and theft,” says Sgt. Casey Bruyns, acting detachment commander.
