Last week, the Slave Lake Native Friendship Centre received a $9,050 donation towards its food bank. According to Friendship Centre Executive Director Barb Courtorielle (pictured on the right), food bank use has gone up steeply in the past two or three months. Before April of this year, the average monthly cost of providing food to needy people was between $8,000 and $11,000, she says. The past couple of months it has been $19,000, which makes the donation from Tamarack Valley Energy Ltd. very timely. Presenting the cheque is production foreman Trevor Sieben.
