While the weather hasn’t been particularly warm, all of the snow is off of Allarie Trails. It appears a new artist or an old one has been taking the opportunity to explore their creative juices.
Over the last few weeks, there’s been a bit more street art pop up in Slave Lake. The two pictured here might be by the same artist, as there’s a continuity of colour.
In a different location, one day someone painted a large black circle with a cross in it. The next day someone had spray bombed it over with highlighter yellow. Since then it hasn’t changed.
The Leader asked the local RCMP about the new graffiti.
“We’re not getting any complaints on that,” said Staff Sgt. Don Racette.
If property owners want to make a complaint, the RCMP can search for the culprit and charge them with the crime of mischief.
Town of Slave Lake also has a bylaw which says “no person shall create or apply graffiti in a public place.”
“It is illegal under the bylaw, but you’d have to catch the person in the act,” says Garry Roth, acting Slave Lake CAO.
So far the new street art appears to be benign.
In the past, there were some gang symbols, says Racette. However, that was over two years ago, and nothing since then.
