Three members of the Slave Lake 15U Heat baseball team will be playing in the Alberta Summer Games in Okotoks this week.
Nico Diaz, Lucas Diaz and Colby Campbell made the Zone 8 (northwestern Alberta) team at a tryout camp in Grande Prairie back in June. They are among the 16 chosen from a field of 25, after making a good impression in a series of running, fielding, hitting and pitching drills.
Question: How do you stack up against the players from GP and elsewhere? Answer: not as good as some, but better than others.
The trio aren’t sure exactly where they’ll end up playing. Nico is used to playing outfield for the Heat and expects he’ll end up there. Lucas might too, but he’s used to an infield position with the Heat. Campbell says first base, pitching and outfield are possibilities for him.
The Zone 8 team had one more practice session (it was last week) before the Summer Games competition starts on July 20. That’s a Thursday
