Slave Lake’s Lakeside Figure Skating Club is back into more or less normal operations for the 2021/22 season. Here’s the latest, from head coach Jennifer Dierker.

“This season looks very similar to seasons past with exception to the coaches wearing masks! We have 13 StarSkaters (figure skating), eight Intro to Star Skaters (transition program from CanSkate to figure skating), and 30 skaters in CanSkate (learn to skate).

“Our CanSkate numbers are a little lower this year than we typically have.

“Registration is open for Session 2 of CanSkate. The program begins January 4 and runs until March 19. Our online registration is available at: Lakesidefigureskatingclub.uplifterinc.com. We also have a Facebook page with links to our registration site.

“The Club was able to recruit three skaters to become CanSkate coaches. They attended training this year in September. We are so happy to have the extra coaches! They are Tayah Livingston, Kennedy Hartman and Isabella Prah.
“Our StarSkate girls are hoping to be able to attend competition in Grande Prairie this season. We are also looking forward to testing and our annual Carnival (ice show) March 19, 2022.

Our club has applied for several grants and has been the successful recipient of a few. We are actively seeking volunteers to sit on our executive to keep our club running.”
