Vows to continue fighting for Albertans

Arnold Viersen was officially sworn in last week as Member of Parliament for Peace River – Westlock. First elected in 2015 and again in 2019, MP Viersen was re-elected on September 20, 2021 with over 63 per cent of the vote.

The swearing-in ceremony takes place after the Clerk of the House receives the certificate of election for the Member from the Chief Electoral Officer. The 1867 Constitution Act requires that every Member subscribe to an oath of allegiance administered by the Clerk of the House before taking their seat in the House of Commons. The newly sworn-in Member then signs the Test Roll, a book whose pages are headed by the text of the oath or affirmation.

“I want to thank the voters of Peace River – Westlock for the opportunity to represent you again in Ottawa as your Member of Parliament,” says Viersen. “I will continue to fight to get our resources to market and for forestry, farming, small businesses and the oil and gas sectors that are the heartbeat of our communities. This Liberal government has caused enormous suffering in the lives of hardworking Albertans over the past six years.

“Canada’s Conservatives know that a strong Alberta means a strong Canada. We will continue to stand up for Albertans and fight for their interests.

“With inflation skyrocketing under the Liberals, Canadians will only get higher prices, higher taxes, and smaller paycheques under this government’s economic plan. What they deserve are solutions to our economic challenges, not more risky and unproven economic schemes.

“Canada’s Conservatives are ready to get back to work and will hold Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to account for his failed economic policies.”
