On February 9, 2023, Dr. Sandy Vanderburgh, Northern Lakes College Vice President Academic, announced his resignation.

In an NLC news release, Dr. Vanderburgh says, “At this time, I want to thank Northern Lakes College for providing me with the opportunity to be a small part of such a great institution. I learned so much about how effectively the college provides online and hands-on education to such a vast region of Northern Alberta and how well our students are served by NLC’s supported distance learning model. I clearly recall when President Mitchell was touring me around on my first day and he showed me the Mobile Trades Lab (MTL). At that point I knew that NLC really had put a lot of thought and resources into how to provide their students with great learning experiences no matter where they are.

“I won’t forget the friendships I’ve made, and the chance to make a difference in the lives of our students has been extremely rewarding. I am also impressed with the College’s focus on the success of its students, the dedication of the Senior Leadership Team, and the commitment of NLC employees. Northern Lakes College is a great family.”

Vanderburgh has taken a role at a southern Alberta post-secondary institute. In the news release, he notes that recent changes requires him to be closer to his family. He is moving back to his hometown.

“We thank Sandy for his work at the College and wish him all the best in his new role,” says Dr. Glenn Mitchell, NLC president and CEO, in the news release.

Vanderburgh spent less than a year at NLC, having started on May 2, 2022.
