Leader staff

Slave Lake has a long history with the Arctic Winter Games. It hosted in 1994, has provided athletes, coaches and support staff through the years. For the 2023 games, eight athletes, two coaches, and three mission staff are from Slave Lake.

Starting with the athletes, four U15 and one U18 Slave Lake Thunder players made the Team Alberta North hockey teams. Grayson Conrad, Josh Barore, Damian Hill and Jonas Lillo made the boys team (born 2007 or later). From the U18, Skylar Hill made the female hockey team.

Four Slave Lakers are involved with snowshoeing – two as athletes and two as coaches. Athletes are Charlotte Adkins and Hanna Lee. Ben McConnell and Kristy Wakeling coach snowshoeing.

In wrestling, Brooke Evernden made the team.

Tim Horsman, Sean McConnell, and Ula Naszynska are mission staff.

Mission staff, according to Team Alberta North, “provide the primary link between all components of the Games’ organizational structure and the sports to which they are assigned. Mission staff are the key contacts for the sports leading up to, during and immediately following the Games. This approach enables Alberta’s athletes and coaches to concentrate on training and the competition at the Games.”
