Some of the pieces of art displayed as part of the second annual Celebrating Indigenous Artists event. It was put on by the Lesser Slave Lake Regional Arts Council. It ran June 21 to 27 in The Fix restaurant in Slave Lake.
There were at least eight artists featured. Art ranged from traditional clothing (including mukluks, beaded leather jackets, and ribbon skirts) to glass work and paintings.
A parka made by Indigenous artist Florisse Schroder in Celebration Indigenous Artists. The description says, “this beautiful elk hide child’s coat was made for Nicky. It was her dad’s first elk and is hand tanned. The fur is a blue fox trim and beading was done by Florisse.”
In the exhibit, Florisse also had a pair of mukluks (which she remade and beaded after the soles wore through) and a fringed, beaded leather jacket.
