Northern Lakes College can now accept 150 more students in Health Care Aide eSTEP (Employed Student Tutored Education Program).
On May 25, the provincial government announced funding for health-care education in northwestern Alberta. NLC received just over half of the funding – $437,000. The other funding goes to Northwestern Polytechnic.
“Northern Lakes College is proud to help educate the next generation of health-care workers,” says Glenn Mitchell, Northern Lakes College president, in the news release. “With this funding, we can train more students to take care of the diverse population of northern Alberta.”
The NLC website lists the ways of completing Health Care Aide training – as a college student, as a high school student doing dual credits, or as a person working in the field (eSTEP). Dual credit means students can receive both high school and college credits.
The new funding adds seats to Health Care Aide eSTEP program at NLC.
NLC has campuses in Slave Lake, Wabasca, Loon River First Nation, and various other northern communities.
In the news release, MLA for Lesser Slave Lake Pat Rehn also had a few things to say. Including that the new seats at NLC “will improve the quality of care for my constituents and all in northern Alberta.”
