An influx of bodies helped the Slave Lake Icedogs be more competitive in their two games this past weekend. On Friday, they lost 12 – 5 to Edson and Saturday dropped another one-goal decision to the Gibbons Pioneers.
Friday’s game against Edson was a good one if your first name was Jesse.
Four of the eight first-period goals were scored by either Jesse Swanson of Edson or Jesse Tabac of the Icedogs. Edson led 5 – 3 after one period.
Other Slave Lake goal-scorers (besides Tabac) were Kyler Roy (2), Sacha Munro and Patrick Bourque. Shawn Davis faced 74 shots in net for Slave Lake.
In Gibbons on Saturday, the Icedogs had a shorter bench, but were in the game the whole way. However, they couldn’t keep Gibbons from picking up its third win of the season, 7 – 6.
Patrick Bourque scored a hat trick for Slave Lake. Jayden Okemow, Jase Larry and Munro got the others. Davis was again the goalie for the Icedogs.
The Icedogs host Fox Creek this coming Friday night. On Saturday they play in Edson.
