Sunday’s Junior hockey game between the Slave Lake Icedogs and the Fox Creek Ice Kings could have gone either way. How it did go was in the Ice Kings’ favour, by a 10 – 8 score. That might have disappointed the bigger-than-usual crowd, but they did get plenty of entertainment in the back-and-forth contest.

The second period was a wild one, featuring a hat trick by Icedog D-man Austin Gaspar – each one giving the Icedogs a one-goal lead that Fox Creek answered within seconds. The ‘Dogs’ led by one goal after two and had their biggest lead of the game early in the third on a Loïc Dury goal.

But that’s when the wheels started to come off. Fox Creek scored three times on a four-minute powerplay and held their advantage to the end. Altogether, six of Fox Creek’s 10 goals came on the man advantage.

Also scoring for the Icedogs were Logan Bigstone and Nolan Marshall.

In Enoch Friday night, the Icedogs lost 8 – 3 to the Northern Alberta Tomahawks. Blake Opikokew, Dury and Nolan Janvier scored the Slave Lake goals.

The Icedogs play in Fox Creek this Friday. On Saturday they host the Edson Eagles. Game time 7:30 p.m.
