It’s unlikely the Slave Lake Icedogs would have beaten High Prairie on Friday if they’d had 20 skaters. But with only 10 available for the trip, they never stood a chance.
The Red Wings scored six times in the first period on 33 shots on goal. If the stats on gmhl.net are to be believed, the Icedogs got zero shots on goal in that period.
After that things got a bit better, with the Icedogs at least mustering a bit of offense. It resulted in a second-period goal by Sacha Munro, assisted by Malachi Laboucan and Jase Larry. The final score was 11 – 1 for High Prairie.
Shawn Davis, in net for Slave Lake, did well enough, considering that he faced 69 shots.
Then came Fox Creek, a team the Iceodogs handled pretty easily earlier in the season.
Those days are apparently over, as the Ice Kings had the jump on the ‘Dogs right from the start. The final score was 8 – 1 for Fox Creek. Patrick Bourque got the only Slave Lake goal.
This Friday, Dec. 16, the Icedogs host the Gibbons Pioneers. On Saturday they play the Tomahawks at Enoch. That will be it for games until early January.
Last week’s report on the Icedogs mistakenly reported that the team traveled to Fox Creek on Dec. 3. They actually forfeited the game, which was recorded on the league website as a 3 – 0 win for Fox Creek. We found out later about the forfeit.
