For the Lakeside Leader

A volleyball match between Lakeside Outreach (LSO) and Roland Michener (RMSS) took place at the RMSS senior high gym during lunch hour on November 17th. Students and teachers who had a passion for volleyball participated.

The excitement in the room was at an all-time high as students and various teachers from RMSS that were watching the match between the two schools cheered heavily. Everyone who took part had a competitive attitude and it was a great turnout.

The month of November has been packed with various activities such as students attending a local gym, East Shore Athletics, a live presentation from a Holocaust survivor, along with an anger education workshop with Joy McGregor, from Slave Lake’s Family and Community Support Services.

Students who attended sessions at East Shore Athletics described it as “Worth it,” because it helped contribute towards individual wellness. Some workouts students fulfilled included time on the exercise bikes, ring rows and even having the chance to learn proper form on different kinds of gym equipment. It’s not very often students have the time and motivation to go to a gym, so having a diverse physical education program is definitely worth taking advantage of.

Students also had an opportunity to learn about the Holocaust in Europe back in the 1940s. Fanny Wedro from Calgary, AB, a Holocaust survivor, went into great detail about the Holocaust in Europe and how she managed to survive. LSO students found it to be very informing because it gave an insight on the things she had to conquer in order to survive the Holocaust.

Brandy Gorr, student at Lakeside Outreach described the workshop as a “great learning experience” and that she would do it again. As November comes to an end, LSO students are looking forward to a well-deserved break in December.
