Stand-up comedy returns to Slave Lake and Dog Island Brewing on Feb. 11, with a show called ‘2 Joke Girls.’ It features Lisa Baker and Lori Gibbs.

Feb. 11, in case you don’t have a calendar handy, is a Saturday, and Dog Island Brewing is located at 250 Caribou Trail.

Also appearing, in a return engagement, is comic and former Slave Lake schoolteacher Andrea Avery.

Two shows! If the 6:30 p.m. one is too early for you, there’s another one at 8:30.

Local pizza entrepreneur Moe Mouallem, in his alter ego as an entertainment impresario, is once again organizing and promoting the show.

“We’re pushing this as a Valentine’s/Galentines event and encouraging couples as well as ladies night,” he says. “There’s no minors allowed. Alimo’s will be selling heart-shaped pizzas as well.”

The work of both Baker and Gibbs can be previewed online. Baker is a Newfoundlander living in Alberta and makes much of the ‘clash of cultures’ type of thing in her act. She’s got a big following on Tiktok, Mouallem tells us. She can be heard and seen all over the place and her second comedy album, called ‘Super Newfie,’ is now available.

Gibbs is a Calgarian (We won’t hold that against her!) who has performed all over, including as a regular on CBC Radio’s ‘The Debaters.’ She was nominated as Best Standup at the Canadian Comedy Awards.
