On the Family Day long weekend, the Slave Lake U18 Thunder played three games to finish off their regular season. The first two were losses; the third one a tie vs. the Kitscoty Pitbulls. All three were road games.

In St. Paul on Feb. 16 against the 19 – 3 Canadiens, the Thunder got spanked 9 – 2. They did manage 32 shots on goal, but after scoring the game’s first goal, gave up seven straight and never recovered.

Hudsyn Pearson and Liam Dierker scored the Slave Lake goals. Grady Beauchamp and Andrei Angelescu shared goaltending duties for the Thunder.

The Feb. 17 loss was 5 – 3 to Wainwright. The Thunder outshot Wainwright, but again had trouble finishing. Kolby Courtorielle, Carson Maitland and Dierker scored the Slave Lake goals. Angelescu faced 31 shots in the loss.

The Sunday game in Kitscoty saw the Thunder fall behind 2 – 0 early, but fight themselves out of the hole to earn a single point. A Courtorielle goal with 37 seconds left in the third period was what it took. Before that were two goals by Drayder Pearson and one by Hudsyn.

Beauchamp made 26 saves.

The U15 #1 Thunder beat the CR Knights 3 – 2 in Calahoo on Feb. 17. Isaiah Brown had a lot to do with the team’s success, stopping 39 of the shots he faced. Kale Whitney scored twice for the Thunder; Chase Blanchette got the other one.

The U15 #2 Thunder finished off their winless season with a 15 – 1 loss to Drayton Valley in Drayton Valley on Feb. 17. Alexander Cardinal scored the only Slave Lake goal. Oliver Fors faced 64 shots in the Slave Lake net.

The U13 #1 Thunder lost 4 – 3 to Athabasca on Feb. 17, only their third loss of the season if the standings on are correct.

The schedule on that same website shows no more regular season games, but it also shows the Thunder as having played three fewer games than four of the five other teams in its division.

The game was in Athabasca, and judging by the way it started, the home team was readier to play. They jumped out to a 3 – 0 lead. Slave Lake got three of the next four, but fell a bit short.

Drake Conrad scored two in the loss. Dominic Baxter also scored for the Thunder. Noah Eben faced 36 shots in the loss.

The U13 #2 Thunder beat the Pembina Pirates 4 – 3 in their final scheduled regular season game. They trailed 2 – 1 after one period. But led 3 -2 after two.

Harlow Lukan-Kubel, Parker Green, Kyle Labby and Jack Oostvogels scored for Slave Lake. In net, Zachary Gallant made 20 saves for the win.

The U11 #1 Thunder beat Drayton Valley 7 – 3 on February 17 and then lost to the same team the next day, 12 – 9.

The first game featured a five-goal outburst from Jacob Pelley, with Chase Ching and Cole Stone adding singles.

Hunter Herbert was the winning goalie, stopping 35 shots.

On Feb. 18, the teams got back at it, again in Drayton Valley, and the home team scored a dozen times on 41 shots to win it.

Pelley scored four times, Stone and Ching twice each and Cohen Dahlgren got one too.

The U11 #2 Thunder lost a couple on the Family Day weekend – 14 – 3 to Drayton Valley on Feb. 17 and 3 – 2 to Pembina on Feb. 18.
