Fall of 2018 and 2019, the Southshore Childcare Association held a Dueling Pianos concert in Slave Lake. They were all set to hold another in 2020, but put it off for one year.

“Hoping that the pandemic would be over,” says Serena Green, fundraising coordinator.

The pandemic isn’t over, but AHS has given them the go-ahead to hold the event with restrictions.

The restrictions are that only people fully vaccinated can attend, says Green. Proof of a negative test isn’t enough. Also, masks are required except when seated.

Southshore Childcare Association runs a preschool at the Widewater Community Complex. It has 16 students this year. It doesn’t receive any government funding, so relies heavily on fundraising.

“This is our big fundraiser,” says Green. “We did a casino last year to offset it.”

Dueling Pianos will be Saturday, November 13, 2021 from 5 to 11 p.m. in the Slave Lake Inn and Conference Centre.

The pianists don’t have swords to duel with. Instead, the night is a competition between the two players as they play requests from the audience.

People will be seated at tables of eight. Tickets can be purchased as single ($85) or double ($150). The event is for adults only and includes a cash bar.

Dueling Pianos includes a concert, supper, and silent auction. This year the pianists are Jenesse Graling and Shane Young.

These are the two who performed in the 2019 Slave Lake concert. Graling is from High Prairie.

The blurb on the website says “The Dueling Pianos Show guarantees a high energy ‘sing-out-loud’ kind of event. Sing, dance and clap along to your requested songs.”
