Tim Tamashiro is a jazz evangelist. He supports jazz artists throughout Canada and around the world and he participates as a singer. Tim was the host of Tonic on CBC Radio 2 for 10 years. He’s a passionate believer in jazz as the ultimate music education and he also believes that the spaces between songs are as important as the music. Stories matter. Stories can make songs even more compelling.

Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Sammy Davis Jr were the lead members of The Rat Pack; an informal group of entertainers centered on the Las Vegas casino scene in the 1960s. When You’re Smiling is a celebration of their friendship, their songs and their stories.

“When You’re Smiling is a lovely mix of stories and music, reminiscing and putting perspective on an era,” says Brandi Wurtz, Artistic Director of Horizon Stage Performing Arts Centre in Spruce Grove. “Tim’s humor and ease at the microphone made for a wonderfully immersive audience experience. Everyone left feeling like they knew more than when they started, and with smiles on their faces.”

Josh Gennings of Fort Saskatchewan’s Shell Theatre says, “Frank. Dean. Sammy – When You’re Smiling enveloped our audience in the music of the Rat Pack in every way. From little known quips about their history, they enjoyed the men behind the myth while singing along to the tunes that they knew and loved, performed by one of Canada’s best, Tim Tamashiro. A great show!”

When You’re Smiling takes place on Feb. 24 at Slave Lake’s Legacy Centre, with the doors opening at 7 p.m. The Elk’s bar will be open for beverage service during the show.

Stage North will be hosting two more acts this season. On March 18, The Nervous Flirts bring live karaoke to the stage; on April 29, Victoria blues rocker Jesse Roper will be onstage for a lively show.

Tickets for the shows are available online at stagenorth.org, or at any of our ticket outlets: The Rotary Library, The Source, and Distractions. Please call Ellen Criss at 780-805-4346 with any questions.
